About Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD)
The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) is a non-profit organization established in January 1996 in Dharamshala, India. It is the first Tibetan human rights group formed in exile and is entirely staffed by exiled Tibetans. TCHRD is dedicated to promoting human rights and democracy in Tibet and among the Tibetan diaspora.
TCHRD conducts thorough investigations into human rights conditions in Tibet, focusing on abuses by Chinese authorities. Its activities include monitoring violations, publishing annual and thematic reports, and raising awareness through seminars and workshops. The organization also engages diplomatically with international bodies, submitting cases to UN special rapporteurs and lobbying for global support. TCHRD produces multilingual research-based publications and maintains databases on Tibetan political prisoners and other human rights issues.
