SPHERE, which stands for Security and Privacy Heterogeneous Environment for Reproducible Experimentation, is a public research testbed dedicated to reproducible cybersecurity and privacy experimentation. It is funded by the NSF Mid-Scale Research Infrastructure program and developed by a collaboration of institutions, including the USC Information Sciences Institute, Northeastern University Khoury College of Computer Sciences, and the University of Utah Kahlert School of Computing.

SPHERE provides access to diverse, user-configurable hardware, software, and networking resources through six specialized user portals. This infrastructure supports sophisticated experimentation across various environments, enabling researchers to build on each other's work. In addition to research, SPHERE also focuses on education, workforce training, cybersecurity exercises, and test and evaluation activities. Its capabilities include heterogeneous hardware access, combined multi-resource experimentation, and support for critical infrastructure research, such as emulated environments for water treatment plants and the power grid.
