Govt. Polytechnic – Hamirpur is arguably among the Best Polytechnics in india.Institution was established way back in the year 1963, with three branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering to give the much needed impetus to the holistic development of Technical Education. This institute marched ahead in the path of progress to incorporate the branches of Computer Engineering and Information Technology in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively. The institute has ver good infrastructural facilities by way of buildings, equipments, state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops, spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, playground, hostels, residences, bank, post office, canteen, auditorium and guest house etc. The institute have very good admissions. The institute is affiliated to H.P. Takniki Shiksha Board Dharamshala.

The campus is situated at Baru in Hamirpur District of Himachal Pradesh and is 3 Kms from Hamirpur bus stand.  The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the country by road. The nearest broad gauge railway line is at Una, Himachal Pradesh which is around 80 Kms from Hamirpur. The campus is spread in an area of approximately 40 Acres.

The Polytechnic is also committed to it's social liability. Along with Full time and Part time Formal Courses, the Polytechnic also runs Free Non-Formal, Job- oriented Short term courses for the under privileged section of society and school dropouts under the Community Development Through Polytechnics(CDTP) Scheme of MHRD.
