The Additive Manufacturing Lab (AM Lab) at IIT Mandi is a research facility focused on advanced additive manufacturing techniques, including metal and polymer 3D printing. Led by Dr. Prateek Saxena, the lab conducts research in areas such as prototyping, biomedical implants, defense components, and composite materials. It supports innovative research and development in additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, and prototyping.

The lab offers educational programs, including short courses on Product Design and Additive Manufacturing, emphasizing metal applications and hybrid techniques. Key research activities involve the fabrication of metal parts using Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), in-house filament extrusion, and the development of auxetic intervertebral disc implants and hybrid lattice structures. The team consists of PhD students and collaborators working on various projects related to additive manufacturing and composite materials. The lab is equipped with advanced setups, including a filament extruder and FDM polymer 3D printer, to support its research initiatives.
